Michael goes LE JoG

What on earth!  And well you might ask. LE JoG is the Lands End to John o Groats walk, which I am going to do this year (2014)

I am starting on 15th June at Lands End, and am determined to make it to John o Groats! Even if I have to crawl there. I hope to arrive around mid September God willing and with a favorable wind!

Why? Good question. Two reasons actually. One a bit personal, and if you know me personally, you’ll know that part. The other is to raise some much needed funds for an incredible local charity, that is frequently described as Maidstones best kept secret.

The Blackthorn Trust

I’ll be going south to north, and I’ll be going alone, and, I can’t wait to go! Everything is in place. Training has been going on for just over a year. I have completed a 100 mile training walk recently, just to check that I could actually get up and walk continually for days on end. Equipment is all ready. Just got to wait till the 15th June.

The staff in all the offices are also looking forward to me going, but for all the wrong reasons!

My partner Shirley, has kindly given me so much encouragement and support, that I can’t thank her enough. It certainly wouldn’t be possible without her tremendous help. She will be coming to catch up with me after a couple of weeks. I can then get supplies of things that are working well (which type of socks are the best for comfort etc) and she will take away the items I’m just not using. Like a razor! Only joking, I’m not going to come back looking like Forrest Gump!

She will then wave me off until I arrive in the Lake District, when we will catch up again. Then finally she will collect me from John o Groats.

 Update!

I made it! I left Lands End on a spectacular day. 15th June 2014. A chap who was cycling to John o Groats said he would take my picture as he had never met a really crazy person before  he shook my hand and wished me well.
